Outbound EPCIS XML Files: Ensuring DSCSA Compliance and Supply Chain Transparency

As part of HELM’s ongoing commitment to DSCSA compliance and full supply chain traceability, we are proud to provide support for generating outbound EPCIS XML files. These files ensure that critical product movement and event data is communicated seamlessly to trading partners in a standardized, regulatory-compliant format.

What Are EPCIS Files?

EPCIS (Electronic Product Code Information Services) is a global GS1 standard that enables trading partners to share data about the movement and status of products as they travel through the supply chain. By using this format, HELM ensures interoperability, accuracy, and transparency across all partners.

How HELM Generates Outbound EPCIS Files

When shipments are prepared in HELM, the system:

• Marshals internal data (orders, shipments, and product records) into the GS1 EPCIS XML format.
• Maps essential details including:
o EPC identifiers (serialized product codes)
o Event times and types (shipping, receiving, aggregation)
o Business transactions
o Source and destination locations
• Places the completed file into the outbound directory for secure transmission via AS2, SFTP, or other partner-approved channels.

Why It Matters

By providing accurate, real-time product movement data, HELM enables downstream partners to know:

• What products are being shipped,
• Where they are going,
• How they are structured within pallets, cases, or units.

This improves traceability, compliance, and inventory accuracy while reducing the risk of errors or delays.

Building Trust Through Transparency

Outbound EPCIS XML files are more than a compliance requirement—they’re a powerful tool for strengthening collaboration and visibility across the humanitarian pharmaceutical supply chain. With HELM, clients can be confident that every shipment is tracked, documented, and communicated to partners in line with DSCSA and GS1 standards.
